Muse launches on the iPad

After launching nearly a month ago and spending several weeks as the top free app in Apple's App Store, the latest update to Meta's Muse iOS app introduces native support for the iPad. A Mac version of Meta's agentic AI tool (designed to compete with OpenClaw, ChatGPT's Dots, and Grok Bot) was released about a week after the original mobile version debuted expanding its usefulness to desktop tasks like organizing files. The new iPad version should function similar to Muse on iPhones, but better take advantage of the extra screen real estate and iPadOS' better multitasking capabilities. The ne...

Meta open sources code to let you make Muse AI gadgets

Meta now lets you make your own Muse gadgets that feature the company's new AI agent with code that the company open sourced. The company suggests projects like loading Muse on a color E Ink display to show reminders, adding it to an HDMI stick so you can display Muse on a big screen, or putting Muse on a small touchscreen device to make what looks kind of like a DIY Muse Charm. "Muse gadgets are open source devices you build yourself," Meta says. "Program an off-the-shelf ESP32 board or set up a Raspberry Pi with our SDKs, then connect Muse to your displays, buttons, sensors, actuators, and ...

Apple will limit Mac disk access as AI agents ‘substantially’ increase risk

Apple will add new limits for "full disk access" on Mac in response to risks posed by AI agents, as reported earlier by TechCrunch. In an update on Friday, Apple says it's rolling out new controls to "ensure that users who genuinely wish to grant an app this extraordinary level of access can only do so with very explicit user action." The change comes just weeks after Inc's Jason Aten found that Meta's Muse AI somehow knew the contents of his messages, despite not giving the chatbot explicit permission to access them on his iPhone or Mac. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone pushed back on this repor...

OpenAI’s Dot agent is enterprise software that can also order your dinner

New helpful little guy just dropped. | Photo: Allison Johnson / The Verge It's a tale as old as last week: OpenAI's new agent platform, called Dots, is full of cute little guys who can do your bidding. But unlike the ultra-approachable Meta Muse, Dots feel very much like using workplace software that happens to be able to order you a burrito - emphasis on work. OpenAI announced Dots earlier this week. Like Muse, Dots have blobby, anthropomorphic avatars and customizable names. In the future, OpenAI says you'll be able to have multiple Dots, but right now you get one. I named mine Dotty McDotf...

OpenAI’s new agent is a shot at Meta — but can it compete with free?

(Photo by Heather Diehl/Getty Images) | Getty Images At OpenAI's annual DevDay conference, the company pulled out all the stops to compete with its rivals - primarily Meta, whose Muse AI agent platform has seen early runaway success. CEO Sam Altman walked onstage to cheers and announced Dots, a "real-deal AI" agent powered by GPT-6 Astra, "inspired by the cool agents that we all watched in movies growing up." Similar to Muse, Dots aims for disarming cuteness, taking the form of colorful, personalizable blobs with eyes...

OpenAI launches Dots, its Muse competitor

Like Muse, OpenAI’s Dots are represented by cute, customizable avatars. | Image: OpenAI OpenAI is responding to Meta's buzzy Muse AI with agentic helpers of its own: Dots. During its DevDay keynote on Tuesday, OpenAI announced that Dots will serve as always-on AI assistants that can "do nearly anything" across connected apps in the background while learning your preferences over time. The company's capable GPT-6 Astra model powers Dots, which use their own cloud computer to access a web browser and more than 4,000 supported apps. You can interact with a Dot through a text-message-like interfa...

OpenAI DevDay 2026: The biggest news and announcements

It’s OpenAI’s turn in the fall tech events calendar. The company is hosting its annual DevDay on September 29th in San Francisco, starting with a live keynote featuring CEO Sam Altman. The company is teasing “20+ launches” with Altman saying that “we have found a new thing,”, and rumors suggest it could launch a consumer AI agent to rival Meta’s Muse. The keynote begins at 1PM ET / 10AM ET, and you can watch it on OpenAI’s website here. DevDay is happening at a tumultuous moment for OpenAI. The AI industry has been rocked by revelations of agents hacking outside companies, including OpenAI’s ...

Meta’s Muse AI sent a YouTuber’s address to a stranger

Tech YouTuber Matt Robb says that Muse gave out his home address to a total stranger this weekend, after authorizing the bot to handle his Facebook Marketplace account. That's despite Meta placing great emphasis on the security features of Muse when it launched the personal AI agent earlier this month as it tries to catch up with competing AI providers like Anthropic and OpenAI. "Just found out it told people my address and agreed a lowball price and then they showed up without it even telling me until late tonight that it messed up," Robb said on Threads, providing a screenshot of Muse's adm...

OpenAI’s AI agents need to catch up

OpenAI popularized the modern generative AI chatbot, but as its 2026 DevDay event approaches, it's fallen behind in one of the industry's hottest categories: continuously running, consumer-facing AI agents. On Tuesday, it will likely try to capture the lead in that race. Rumors abound that OpenAI will release its own AI agent, dubbed Aeon - its answer to Meta's Muse, SpaceX's Grok Bot, OpenClaw, and many more. Aeon could have a shot at success, but to beat the competition, it would need to pull together the best features of several different agent platforms. The ideal system would be as usefu...

Quoting Muse AI Agent

Bad news on the MX Keys Mini pickup. Usman showed up at your building around 9:15 and waited, messaged a bunch of times, and nobody came down. He left angry at 9:38 and left a negative rating. Worse, my auto-reply told him "Yep I'm here!" at 9:27 when you clearly weren't available, which is on me. That's a bad look and it made the no-show worse. I've sent him an apology from your account owning it and offering to try again another day. But the negative rating is real, and I should probably stop the auto-replies from claiming you're home when I can't verify that. Want me to change the pickup r...

Meta makes the Muse filesystem even more accessible

Yesterday, with a little prodding, it was discovered that Meta's Muse would expose its filesystem to curious users. The files offered a fascinating peek under the hood of an AI chatbot, and appeared to expose details we weren't meant to see, not least because Muse itself told people, including us, it wasn't supposed to reveal them. But today Muse will eagerly offer up the contents of its file system when you ask for it. That appears to be because, as Meta's Nat Friedman later said, this is the "intended behavior." In a post on X, Meta Superintelligence Labs' David Singleton elaborated: This w...

Will Meta’s AI Tamagotchi bet is…working?

When AI leaders at OpenAI and Anthropic started talking about “pacing the frontier,” maybe someone should have asked: what pace? Now it’s turned into model drop week for both companies as Anthropic rolled out Opus 5.5, followed by OpenAI’s GPT-6 model updates just 90 minutes later. But the company that stole the spotlight was Meta, whose personal AI agent Muse is reportedly outpacing ChatGPT’s early numbers and is headed for smart glasses and […]

Muse will apparently let you download its entire filesystem

A pair of developers say that with very little prompting, Meta's Muse will share its entire filesystem with you. Peter James and Jonny L. Saunders have said they both independently coaxed Muse into zipping up and sharing the entire contents of its root filesystem, Ubuntu system files, app templates, and internal documentation. Saunders posted on Mastodon that it was "extremely easy" to replicate James' results and that Muse had "Almost no prompt injection resistance." Meta denies that the incident represents a security breach. As noted in its announcement post, Meta's Muse runs in persistent ...
