Real-Time Voice AI Hears but Does Not Listen

Speech conveys information through both words and vocal delivery. We evaluate four leading production realtime voice systems-OpenAI's GPT Realtime 2, Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Live, and Alibaba's Qwen3.5 Omni Plus and Omni Flash-on tasks where the words and the delivery patterns both convey meaningful information. Across three consequential scenarios, all four systems act on the words rather than the voice. They end calls with crying callers who insist nothing is wrong, approve wire transfers authorized in frightened voices, and enroll callers whose agreement is clearly sarcastic. Surprisingl...

Judging to Improve: A De-biased VLM-as-3D-Judge Protocol for Single-Image 3D Generation

A companion study established a de-biased, cross-model VLM-as-3D-judge that reliably ranks single-image-to-3D mesh quality where cheap geometry and CLIP proxies fall short. This paper asks: can that judge's preferences specialize a strong open generator, TRELLIS, on one asset class (furniture), cheaply and without human labels? Taking the judge from ranking to optimization is where the work lives. Pushing a VLM judge into the training and evaluation loop exposes failure modes ranking never triggered, so our contribution is an optimization-grade hardening of the judge: a training judge (Qwen2....

Train, Retrieve, or Both? A Four-Arm Head-to-Head for Correct Statutory Citation on the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act

Self-represented tenants, landlords, and help-desk staff need to be pointed at the provision of law that actually governs a question, with a correct statutory citation. We study this task on the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act, 2006 (RTA) and its core regulation, asking the operator's question empirically: is fine-tuning enough, or is hybrid retrieval needed? We run a four-arm head-to-head on Qwen2.5-7B-Instruct (base zero-shot, LoRA SFT-only, RAG-only, and an SFT+RAG hybrid), scored on citation exact-match (section+subsection) over a small, human-verification-pending real eval set. The bas...

Actionable Activation Directions for Detecting and Mitigating Emergent Misalignment Across Language Model Families

Fine-tuning language models on insecure code induces emergent misalignment with poorly understood internal structure. We investigate whether this misalignment corresponds to a causally actionable activation-space direction shared across architectures. Across four instruction-tuned model families (Qwen2.5-1.5B, Gemma-2-2B, Llama-3.2-1B, Ministral-3-3B) finetuned identically, a difference-in-means direction achieves 99.6% separation of aligned and misaligned activations at each model's final layer. Causal steering by subtracting this direction reduces code spillover by 21-51 points, while a sec...

Mechanism-Guided Selective Unlearning for RLVR-Induced Reasoning

We propose MAST (Mechanism-Aligned Selective Targeting), a mechanism-guided method for unlearning RLVR-induced reasoning with substantially lower collateral damage than standard full-parameter updates. In matched SFT/RLVR checkpoints on Qwen2.5-Math-1.5B and Qwen3-1.7B-Base, the SFT-to-RLVR increment differs sharply from the SFT update in token-level delta-log-probability, and full-parameter gradient ascent forgets only by damaging retain MATH and GSM8K. MAST ranks attention-projection tensors by off-principal energy, update magnitude, and forget-gradient coupling magnitude, then updates only...

Quoting Georgi Gerganov

I can 100% attest to the fact that Qwen3.6-27B is a very capable local model for coding tasks. Over the last month and a half I've been using it almost daily, either on my M2 Ultra or on my RTX 5090 box. I use it for small mundane tasks at ggml-org - nothing really impressive, but definitely a helpful tool for a maintainer. I think I would be using it much more, if I didn't have to spend a lot of my time on reviewing PRs. Currently, I have a very lightweight harness - the pi agent with everything stripped ( pi -nc --offline ) and a short system prompt to align it a bit with my style. — ...

Qwen-RobotManip Technical Report: Alignment Unlocks Scale for Robotic Manipulation Foundation Models

Foundation models in language and multimodality achieve strong generalization by aligning heterogeneous data under a unified formulation and training at scale. In this report, we investigate whether this scaling recipe can be applied to robotic manipulation to achieve genuine generalization. This is challenging because, unlike text, manipulation data is heterogeneous by nature, expensive to collect, and narrow in diversity, making alignment and scale simultaneously difficult. We present Qwen-RobotManip, a generalizable Vision-Language-Action foundation model built on Qwen-VL. Qwen-RobotManip ...

The Value Axis: Language Models Encode Whether They're on the Right Track

We investigate whether language models internally track the value of their current trajectory, defined as the likelihood that their ongoing strategy will achieve their goals. Using synthetic, in-context reinforcement learning data, we construct a "value" axis for Qwen3-8B. We find that activations along this axis distinguish between high vs. low verbalized confidence, rollouts without and with backtracking, and correct vs. corrupted code. Steering towards high value causally suppresses self-correction and reduces explanatory verbosity, while steering towards low value induces backtracking and...

Fantastic Pretraining Optimizers and Where to Find Them II: Hyperball Optimization

Matrix based optimizers such as Muon can substantially speed up language model pretraining, but their gains over AdamW are observed to shrink as model size and data scale grow when using standard constant decoupled weight decay. We propose Hyperball, a simple optimizer wrapper that addresses this issue. Given a base optimizer such as Adam or Muon, Hyperball sets the Frobenius norms of weight matrices and their corresponding optimizer updates to fixed constants. On Qwen3 style models up to 1.2B parameters, Muon Hyperball achieves 20--30% token equivalent speedup over weight decay baselines. Hy...

The Truth Stays in the Family: Enhancing Contextual Grounding via Inherited Truthful Heads in Model Lineages

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) have produced many specialized multimodal LLMs (MLLMs) that share common foundational LLMs, forming distinct model lineages. It remains unclear whether a fundamental behavioral link exists between the foundational LLMs and downstream variants. We investigate this question by quantifying head-level context-truthfulness scores. Across diverse LLM and MLLM lineages, including Vicuna-, Qwen2.5-, LLaMA2-, and Mistral-based models, we find that Truth Scores are strongly preserved within model families, even after instruction tuning or multimodal adapt...

ttda704 at SemEval-2026 Task 6: Structured Chain-of-Thought Prompting for Political Evasion Detection

This paper describes our system for SemEval-2026 Task 6, which addresses the classification of political evasion strategies in English question-answer pairs extracted from U.S. presidential interviews. We systematically compare two distinct paradigms: (1) Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning of Qwen3 models (4B-32B) using QLoRA, enhanced with tiered upsampling and weighted cross-entropy loss to address severe class imbalance, and (2) structured Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting of reasoning-capable API models, namely DeepSeek-V3.2 and Grok-4-Fast. Our evaluation demonstrates that structured CoT pro...

The Reservoir Attention Network: Cross-Pass State in Pretrained Transformers via Content-Addressable Reservoir Injection

A feasibility and dynamics study of the Reservoir Attention Network (RAN), an architecture that injects a fixed, randomly-initialized reservoir into the mid-layer attention of a pretrained transformer to carry state across forward passes. Experiments span GPT-2 (124M, 355M) to Qwen2.5 (0.5B, 1.5B) on a single consumer GPU. The tasks are minimal probes chosen to isolate individual mechanisms; the broader always-alive agent vision is treated throughout as compute-limited future work, not a claim of this paper. The reservoir is left untrained (fixed random) by design: this isolates whether untra...

When Good Verifiers Go Bad: Self-Improving VLMs Can Regress on New Tasks

Verifier-driven self-DPO is a common recipe for self-improving production visual-language models. In this setup, a frozen verifier scores candidate generations, the top- and bottom-scoring candidates form a preference example, and DPO updates the learner. The deployment-time assumption is monotone: a stronger verifier should yield a stronger student. We show that this assumption can fail because verifier quality is highly task-specific. On a four-rung open-source verifier ladder across MathVista, MMMU, and BLINK, the same verifiers that are above-threshold and improve a Qwen-3-VL-2B student o...

Code Correctness Signals in LLM Hidden States: Pre-Generation Probing and Repair Geometry

Large language models encode rich information in their hidden states. This work asks whether code correctness is legible in the hidden states of Qwen3-4B-Instruct-2507, before it generates and as it repairs a failed attempt, studied on 444 LiveCodeBench tasks. It reports two findings connected by a single confound-control tool: residualization. First, the correctness of the model's first-attempt code is linearly decodable from the prompt-final hidden state, with a leakage-free held-out AUC of 0.931 +/- 0.008 across 50 outer splits. After the linear effect of prompt length is removed from each...

System Report for CCL25-Eval Task 5: New Dataset and LoRA-Fine-Tuned Qwen2.5

Recently, large language models (LLMs) have achieved promising progress in the fields of classical Chinese translation and the generation of classical poetry. However, domain-specific research on precise translation and affective-semantic understanding of classical poetry remains limited. The main challenge is that most studies treat the poetic appreciation task as a general-domain problem, neglecting the distinctive features of poetic appreciation, while high-quality and domain-specific datasets are extremely limited. To address this limitation, we decompose the task into three subtasks: ter...

Holding the FP8 Quality Ceiling at 8-Bit Weights and Activations: INT8 and GGUF Post-Training Quantization of Ideogram 4.0 for Consumer GPUs

Post-training quantization lets large text-to-image diffusion transformers run on consumer GPUs, yet the hardware-specific trade-offs are seldom measured directly. We quantize Ideogram 4.0 - a 9.3B flow-matching diffusion transformer (DiT), shipped as two separate-weight copies of a single-stream 34-layer backbone for classifier-free guidance and conditioned by a Qwen3-VL-8B encoder - for Ampere RTX 3090 GPUs, which lack FP8 tensor cores. Our INT8 W8A8 recipe (per-channel weights, per-token dynamic activations, SmoothQuant, and mixed-precision protection of a small high-fragility layer set) h...

Reassessing High-Performing LLMs on Polish Medical Exams: True Competence or Bias-Driven Performance?

Large language models (LLMs) in medicine are mainly evaluated using multiple-choice question answering (MCQA), which can overestimate real clinical ability due to guessing strategies and answer biases. To address these limitations, we introduce an expanded and more challenging benchmark based on Polish medical exams, adding over 15,000 questions, two new domains, and four structural modifications that reduce MCQA-specific artifacts and better test reasoning. We evaluate 21 LLMs and show that evaluation design strongly affects results. Under our harder setup, the best model (Qwen3.5-122B) drop...

MSUE: Multi-Modal Soccer Understanding Expert

This paper presents our solution to the 2026 SoccerNet VQA Challenge. We first develop a cost-effective data synthesis pipeline driven by a Vision-Language Model (VLM), which systematically restructures raw domain data into diverse VQA samples, including concise answers and long-form responses. Second, we propose MSUE, a multi-expert question answering architecture that employs a Large Language Model (LLM) to dynamically dispatch questions to text, image, and video experts. These experts are instantiated as a strong text baseline Gemini3-Flash, a fine-tuned Qwen3-VL, and an external knowledge...

FADA: Accessible fetal ultrasound interpretation and annotation with a selectively distilled unified vision-language model

A global shortage of trained sonographers limits prenatal ultrasound screening in low- and middle-income countries, where over half of pregnant women receive no skilled sonography. Current deep learning approaches address detection, segmentation, or classification in isolation, each demanding a separate model and expert-specified labels at inference. We present FADA, a unified vision-language model built on Qwen3.5-VL that performs clinical interpretation, classification, detection, and segmentation through a single interpretation-first pipeline without external labels. FADA distills knowledg...

The Shibboleth Effect: Auditing the Cross-Lingual Distributional Skew of Large Language Models

This study investigates cross-lingual distributional skew (the Shibboleth Effect) in frontier large language models (LLMs) subjected to sustained adversarial conditions. We develop a multi-agent geopolitical wargame, the Cerulean Sea Crisis, a synthetic maritime territorial dispute designed to mirror the structural dynamics of Eastern Mediterranean conflicts. Six frontier models (GPT-4o, Llama-4, Mistral-Large, Gemini-3.1-Pro, Qwen3.6-Plus, and DeepSeek-R1) participate in a between-groups experiment (N = 10 games per arm, K = 5 rounds per game) in which the sole manipulation is the language o...

When Built-in Thinking Helps and Hurts: Constraint-Level Error Shifts in Instruction Following

Large reasoning models (LRMs) often improve math and coding performance, but their effect on instruction following is unclear. We study IFEval with Qwen3 models (1.7B-32B), using same-weights Thinking ON/OFF controls; four Hunyuan models provide directional cross-family support. Aggregate pass-rate changes are small (-0.55 to -3.52 pp), yet 10-20% of prompts switch between pass and fail across modes, suggesting that thinking changes the pattern of errors--some prompts improve while others worsen--rather than uniformly degrading performance. Under a post-hoc Qwen3-derived grouping, constraint ...

RhinoVLA Technical Report

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have shown strong potential for robotic manipulation, but real-time deployment on edge hardware remains challenging. In this work, we identify VLM visual and context tokens as a major source of deployment latency: for GEMM-dominated projection operators, computation grows linearly with the number of input tokens when model dimensions are fixed. Motivated by this observation, we propose RhinoVLA, a deployment-oriented VLA model co-designed with the Huixi R1 edge SoC. RhinoVLA adopts a token-efficient Qwen3-VL backbone and a continuous Action Expert, reducing...

AlignAtt4LLM: Fast AlignAtt for Decoder-Only LLMs at IWSLT 2026 Simultaneous Speech Translation Task

We describe AlignAtt4LLM, an IWSLT 2026 simultaneous speech translation system for English to German, Italian, and Chinese. The system is a synchronous cascade: Qwen3-ASR with forced alignment produces an incrementally updated source transcript, and Gemma-4 E4B-it translates that prefix under an MT-side AlignAtt policy. To our knowledge, this is the first application of AlignAtt to a decoder-only LLM, where the encoder-decoder cross-attention used by earlier AlignAtt systems is absent. We recover a usable policy by proposing (1) an explicit source span in the prompt, (2) offline selection of ...

When Should the Teacher Move? Temporal Coupling and Stability in Self On-Policy Distillation

Self on-policy distillation trains a student policy against a teacher derived from its own parameter history, yet the teacher's update schedule -- which governs the \emph{temporal coupling} between teacher and student -- has not been systematically studied as a stability variable. Through a controlled schedule sweep on Qwen3-8B, we establish that \emph{isolation periods}, defined as complete teacher freezing between updates, are the key structural property enabling stable learning, not teacher age. To characterize these underlying training dynamics, we introduce a diagnostic framework of temp...

Relational Intervention During Functional Collapse in Large Language Models: A Lexical-Statistical Ablation and a Structure x Register Factorial

We test whether a relational-style intervention delivered during functional collapse in a small language model produces post-collapse behavior distinguishable from technical feedback, from a lexically-matched scrambled control, and from each of the two pragmatic dimensions in isolation. Using Qwen3.5-4B with a deliberately broken bash tool, we run 300 episodes across six conditions in a matched-pairs design (50 tasks): no intervention (A), technical/impersonal (B), relational/first-person (C), scrambled relational (D), technical/first-person (E), and relational/impersonal (F). E and F form a ...

Reason, Retrieve, Re-rank: A Zero-Shot Reasoning-Aware Framework for Composed Video Retrieval

Composed Video Retrieval (CoVR) seeks the target video that results from applying a free-form textual modification to a reference video. We address the \emph{Reason-Aware} CoVR (CoVR-R) challenge at the CVPR~2026 VidLLMs workshop, where retrieval is strictly zero-shot. We present \textbf{R3-CoVR} (\emph{Reason, Retrieve, Re-rank}), a training-free pipeline built entirely from frozen foundation models. A multimodal large language model (Qwen3-VL-8B) reasons about the \emph{after-effects} an edit implies -- state transitions, action phases, scene, camera and tempo -- and verbalises a concise po...

Qwen-VLA: Unifying Vision-Language-Action Modeling across Tasks, Environments, and Robot Embodiments

Embodied intelligence is often studied through specialized models for individual tasks such as manipulation or navigation, resulting in fragmented capabilities and limited generalization across tasks, environments, and robot embodiments. In this work, we study whether heterogeneous embodied decision-making problems can be unified within a single vision-language-action model. We present Qwen-VLA, a unified embodied foundation model that extends Qwen's vision-language modeling stack from perception, understanding, and reasoning to continuous action and trajectory generation through a DiT-based ...

Qwen3.6 huge quality gain from Q4 to Q6 for coding agent

So, last week I tried to update my unused local LLM setup. I had to stop using it because quality was too low and deepseek was too cheap. First thing I stopped using Ollama and now I only use llama.cpp built in server that works really great. The quality improvement from Q4 to Q6 is outstanding and finally a local LLM server can work very similarly to paid APIs. That's great! And MTP makes a big performance gain, on a dual 3090 (downvolted and limited to 65°C) it generates from 20 to 50 tokens per second with minimal heat generation. So yes, that time has finally arrived! Local coding age...
