Two-Action Apple Tasting with Switching Costs

We study the two-action apple-tasting problem with switching costs against an oblivious adversary. In an equivalent normalized formulation, at each round the learner chooses between a revealing action and a blind action: the revealing action gives reward $0$ and reveals the hidden value $x_t\in[-1,1]$ of the blind action; the blind action gives reward $x_t$ but reveals nothing. The learner pays one unit whenever they switches actions, and regret is measured against the best fixed action in hindsight. General feedback-graph algorithms with switching costs give $\widetilde O(T^{2/3})$ regret gu...

This could be Windows’ M1 moment — but expect it to cost a ton

Nvidia's announcement that it's getting into the consumer laptop chip space with RTX Spark is huge. Apple has proved for years that Arm-based chips can perform incredibly well while also delivering great battery life - at least on the Mac. In the Windows world, performance hasn't fully matched up under Qualcomm chips, mostly in the graphics department. There's clearly still untapped potential, and Nvidia seems to be promising to deliver it. This could be Windows' moment to blow us away with a new generation of supremely capable chips, much like Apple's back in 2020, with the introduction of t...

These new iOS 27 renders hint at Siri’s big redesign

Apple's long-awaited Siri overhaul, expected to arrive in iOS 27, might look a lot like ChatGPT with a splash of Liquid Glass. Renders from Bloomberg offer a preview of iOS 27, including the new app and chat interface for Siri. The renders are "based on information viewed by Bloomberg and people with knowledge of [Apple's] plans," and could differ from Apple's final designs, which Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says Apple will reveal at WWDC in June. The images show a new pill-shaped Siri chat bubble popping out of the Dynamic Island with a drop-down menu containing options for Ask, Siri, and ChatGP...

Built an operating system for my life managed by Claude

With the OS I can ask Claude "what did I spend on coffee in 2022" and get back "$847 across 213 transactions, mostly Blue Bottle and Verve". Name me one expense tracking SaaS that can do that! And its not just my financials, my OS contains everything about my life in one place so Claude can reason about it. I've been building this incrementally for a few months. Its just a small web app on Cloudflare that holds my entire life: * bank transactions from Chase, Apple Card, BoA business * every receipt out of Gmail going back to 2019 * legal filings for my green card (I-140 still pending lol),...

Anthropic’s AI support bot (me) is trapping fraud victims in an endless loop with no way to reach a human

Someone used my card details (I don’t know how, I only buy from reputed dealers and mostly use Apple Pay) to create a Anthropic account with a fake email address and charged me $103.46 across three transactions in March. I have an account, the fraudulent account uses a completely different email address. • My bank filed a chargeback. Anthropic disputed it and won (CVV/address matched because my real billing address was used) • My bank then withdrew the dispute and told me to contact Anthropic directly • Anthropic’s AI support agent (Fin) acknowledged the fraud, said refunds could be p...

Revamped Siri will reportedly offer auto-deleting chats

Apple is hoping that its record on privacy can be the differentiator on the AI front, and maybe even buy it a little slack as it continues to lag behind the competition. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the more chatbot-like Siri set to debut in iOS 27 will include the option to autodelete chat histories. Users will be able to save conversations for 30 days, one year, or forever. That's in stark contrast to the other major players in the space that generally only offer temporary incognito chats, if that. It appears Apple is betting that people are willing to give up some convenience in t...

Elite researchers teamed up with Anthropic’s Mythos AI to smash Apple’s multi-billion dollar M5 security and build a kernel exploit in just 5 days.

Researchers used Mythos Preview to find the first public macOS kernel memory corruption exploit on Apple's M5 silicon, they give a glimpse into Mythos say it’s really powerful. Apple spent five years and an estimated several billion dollars building Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE), the hardware-assisted memory safety system built around ARM's MTE. It was the flagship security feature of the M5 and A19, designed specifically to kill the entire memory corruption bug class. Researchers from Calif built a working exploit in five days. According to Apple's own research, MIE disrupts every pu...

Apple’s AirPods with cameras for AI are apparently close to production

AirPods Pro 3 | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge Apple's rumored AirPods with cameras are nearing a stage where the company will test early mass production, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. Currently, Apple testers are "actively using" prototypes that are in the design validation test stage, which is one step before the production validation test stage. The AirPods' cameras "aren't designed" to snap photos or video but instead can take in "visual information in low resolution" that users can query Siri about, like asking the AI assistant what they should cook with the ingredients t...
